Dewdrops On Glass

Iittala a Scandinavian tableware and home decoration design brand from Finland has reintroduced a collection of serving items including bowls,

tumblers, plates and jars titled the Kastehelmi collection. The Finnish word Kastehelmi means dewdrops, which refers to the rings of small glass beads that give each piece in the Iittala Kastehelmi collection its distinct character.

Originally designed by Professor Oiva Toikka in 1964, the idea of using droplets of glass as decoration came to Toikka when he was thinking of ways to hide the joint marks left by the production process. The result was Iittala Kastehelmi, which features rings of tiny glass bubbles that extend outwards from the centre of each piece. The versatile design of this collection sets it apart as it can be used in both casual and formal settings and it is dishwasher safe.
