Audemars Piguet’s dainty 33 mm-diameter model represents a return to roots, to the pure aesthetic and powerful lines of the original Royal Oak. It successfully unites all the design codes that forged the success of the world’s first prestige sports watch.
The watch bezel is set with 40 brilliant-cut diamonds and the crown, the bracelet and the folding clasp are all made of steel. The subtle interplay of alternating satin-brushed and polished surfaces characterizing the first Royal Oak watches accentuate the clear-cut lines of this 33 mm model; while the eight hexagonal screws on the octagonal bezel are in white gold, just as they were on the original watch in 1972.
The case is water-resistant to 50 meters and fitted with a glare-proofed sapphire crystal. The bracelet is seamlessly integrated with the case and features the collection’s unmistakable aesthetic, characterized by perfectly assembled links and studs arranged in progressively diminishing order of size. It is secured by a new Audemars Piguet triple-blade folding clasp distinguished by a double-safety fastening system.
Also typical of this collection, the silver-toned dial of this Royal Oak bears a “Grande Tapisserie” pattern that now becomes a signature for all Royal Oak Selfwinding and Quartz models. This motif is crafted by Audemars Piguet using historical machines according to the ramolayé or pounced ornament technique. This process enables simultaneous cutting of squares interspersed with a grid work pattern of fine grooves. The superimposition of two decorations, which is a unique feature of Royal Oak dials, endows them with incomparable radiance. The discreet applied AP initials appear just above the logo, leaving space at 12 o’clock for a double hour-marker inspired by the first Royal Oak watches launched in 1972.
This 33 mm-diameter Royal Oak houses quartz Calibre 2713 driving hour and minute hands as well as a window-type date display. This Royal Oak Quartz watch is also available in steel with a black or white leather strap, or in a pink gold version with a white or brown rubber strap or a pink gold bracelet.
